Re: The Future of Canada’s Air Transportation Sector

Dear Minister Alghabra:

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your recent appointment as Federal Transport Minister.

You are assuming this portfolio at a time of unprecedented crisis in the air transportation industry in Canada, and around the world.

I am writing to you on behalf of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.  We are the largest Union representing Air Canada’s workforce.  We are also the largest Canadian union representing workers at many service providers in airports across Canada, working in airlines, on the ground, aircraft maintenance, and as the bargaining agent for nearly 90% of screening officers across Canada.

As a major stakeholder in the air transportation sector, the IAMAW has actively worked within the confines of the various transportation sub-committees and has welcomed the opportunity to be participate on issues important to our members, and the air transportation sector as a whole.

I appreciate your new role will be very time consuming, however we would like the opportunity to speak with you at your earliest possible convenience to discuss the issues , both present and future, facing the air transportation sector.

Thanks in advance for your consideration and assistance in this regard, please contact me at dferguson@iamaw.org and we can arrange a virtual meeting in the near future.

Yours Truly,

Derek Ferguson
Grand Lodge Representative
