LL 1295 members embrace IAM Pension Plan in new contract at Peel Cheshire Homes

23 March, 2022

Brampton, ON – IAM members working at Peel Cheshire Home recently voted in favour of a new one-year Collective Agreement, where the major component was the introduction of the IAM Pension Plan.

“Doug Ford’s Bill 124 has limited the ability of these workers to improve their work-life for the past three years”, stated IAM District 78 Business Representative Eric Johnston. “Because the Bill limits overall annual increases to 1%, the workers decided to put the money into the IAM Pension Plan.”

In addition to introducing the pension plan, improvements were made to the scheduling language. Full-time workers will no longer have to work on holidays, and shifts for part-time workers will be equitably distributed. The group will immediately be back into negotiations as the agreement was retroactive to April 2021 and expires at the end of March.

Peel Cheshire Home is located in Brampton, ON and is a residential home providing support for persons with disabilities. The IAM represents more than 400 workers in retirement homes in Brampton, Bowmanville, North Bay, Orleans, Ottawa, Stratford and Toronto.

The IAM represents more than 3,200 workers in the Health Care Sector.
