Congratulations to Jerry Jerosz from Local Lodge 1922, he was the winner of the Thanksgiving basket. Thank you to all members who bought tickets, all proceeds will be going to Guide Dogs. For those who wish to try their luck again we will soon have our Christmas Baskets up and ready ……..Good Luck!

Union Brother, Peter Brommer

Union Brother, Peter Brommer, passed away Sept. 29, 2016. Peter was born June, 05, 1938.

Peter was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich ON, Canada, and joined the IAM&AW LL 1863 (now LL 1975) on Oct. 21, 1965. At that time Peter was a Stock Controller in Fabrication at the plant.

The funeral was held Oct. 03, 2016, at McGlynn Family Funeral Home, Seaforth, ON. His family will receive a Bible from the LL 1863 Retirees Club.

Grand Lodge Convention: Remembering two deceased Machinists

Remembering Paul Mitchell

IAM District 78 Directing Business Representative Derek Ferguson rose on a point of privilege to have delegates to take a moment of silence to remember for DL78 DBR Paul Mitchell who passed away in 2013

Remembering Ian Henrey Perez

IAM LL 2323 Shop Committee Chair, Dave Flowers, rose of a point of privilege to have delegates remember Ian Henrey Perez, 24, an Air Canada ramp employee who was killed on the job in the spring of 2016. Flowers mentioned how Air Canada stations across the country raised over $6,000 to support Ian’s family. With the agreement of the IAM Executive Council, International President Bob Martinez announced the IAM would donate a further $4,000 to the effort which prompted a standing ovation from the delegates.

Union Brother, Edward (Ed) Tonks

Union Brother, Edward (Ed) Tonks, passed away Sept. 12, 2016. Ed was 91 years old.

Ed started at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders Ltd. in Goderich ON, Canada, and joined the IAM&AW LL 1863 (now LL 1975) on April 5, 1970. Ed worked in the machine shop.

There was a cremation. The private family service took place at Gilchrist Chapel in Guelph, ON.

Local 717T Pin day

On Saturday September 10th IAM Local 717T held a “pin day”, in recognition of the senior members of the IAM at Magellan Aerospace in Toronto. Pizza and refreshments were served, and by all accounts, “a good time was had by all”, said Local Vice-President, Maurizio Romanelli.

Russ Gittlen to Succeed Dale Hartford at Guide Dogs of America

IAM International President Bob Martinez announced this week that IAM District 15 New England Area Director and Local 447 Assistant Business Manager Russ Gittlen has been appointed Director of Guide Dogs of America (GDA) effective January 1, 2017. Gittlen will replace retiring GDA Director Dale Hartford.
“The IAM has been extremely fortunate to have Dale Hartford at the helm of GDA,” said Martinez. “We owe him and his entire family a debt of gratitude for his years of dedicated service. The IAM has always been fortunate to draw from a deep pool of talent to ensure GDA remains the world-class organization it is today. As director, Dale consistently increased the school’s fundraising totals and, more importantly, grew the number of guide dog teams graduating each year. His loyalty and his leadership will not soon be forgotten.”
