Ottawa, ON – Tuesday morning 320 CLC delegates will descend upon MP’s on Parliament Hill for the largest Canadian Labour Congress lobby on record and once again the dominant group will come from the IAM. This time 65 Machinists will lobby parliamentarians on the need for a National Pharmacare plan, pay equity, employment insurance and pension reform to protect worker’s pensions during bankruptcy proceedings. Pension reform is of particular interest to the Machinists who want the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act changed so that workers are given priority over shareholders during bankruptcy proceedings. Monday night, delegates from 54 unions were given instructions on how to lobby their local MP.

Over the last few years, the IAM has been the major participant in the CLC Parliament Hill Lobby Days. Let’s continue to hit above our weight and make Lobby Days 2018 even more successful!
Four topics are being considered for inclusion in the lobby day; including pharmacare, pay equity, pension and bankruptcy reform, and employment insurance. The registration is now open for the CLC lobby day on February 6, 2018. A mandatory planning and training session will be held on February 5, 2018 at 6 pm at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Ottawa City Centre.
All lobby day attendees must be registered through the online form in order to participate in the lobby. Please identify who from your Local Lodge will be coming to participate in the lobby. We will be working hard to make sure at least one person in each lobby delegation is a constituent of the MP being lobbied. This form is live – Register Now! Continue reading
