The IAM members of Local 1295 who work at Thorncliffe Retirement home in Nepean, ratified their first collective agreement late last week. You retire from your workplace, Not your Union

IAM District 78 Retiree’s held their annual Christmas luncheon in Brampton earlier this week. In addition to an excellent roast beef lunch, attendee’s were treated to music and a trivia contest by DJ Colin Cherry, followed up with a rousing game of bingo. You may retire from the job, but you never retire from the Union!

IAM with CBTU for a better tomorrow for all!

On Saturday, IAM members from the Toronto area, along with members from many other unions, attended an awards dinner for the CBTU. The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists is an organization that is working to improve the economic development and employment opportunities for workers of African-Descent within the framework of the trade union movement. The IAM’s own Frank Saptel received the June Veecock award for leadership.    Well done brother!

Knowledge is POWER

On Monday shop stewards from across southern Ontario met for basic stewards training at IAM District 78 offices in Toronto. IAM Representative Heather Kelley, noted that they “all actively participated and were eager to improve their skills to help out in their respective workplaces.”

Thanksgiving Basket Winner

Union Brother, Peter Brommer

Union Brother, Peter Brommer, passed away Sept. 29, 2016. Peter was born June, 05, 1938. Peter was hired at Champion/Volvo Motor Graders in Goderich ON, Canada, and joined the IAM&AW LL 1863 (now LL 1975) on Oct. 21, 1965.
