BUILDING STRONGER STEWARDS : IAM DISTRICT 78 HOSTS LOCAL 1231 ANNUAL STEWARDS SYMPOSIUM

On July 3, 2026 IAM District 78 hosted an Annual Stewards Symposium for the Stewards of Local 1231 at the District 78 Office.

This important event provided stewards with an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge, share experiences and enhance the skills needed to effectively represent and support our members in the workplace. Through education, collaboration and discussion, the symposium reinforces our commitment to building strong, informed and confident Union Leadership.

A wide range of topics were covered thoroughly by the speakers District 78 Business Representative Ben Osakue and Local 1231 Central Chair Susanna Duncan. Topics included comprehensive discussions on the structure of the Union, roles and responsibilities of Stewards, Chief Stewards, Central Chairs, Education, Relationship with Management, Approach during discipline, Managing expectations, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Code, Law and Statutes, Employer Policies, WSIB, Reporting incidents, modified duties and accommodations, workplace harassment, Union Support and Employer responsibilities.

This was followed by a lively, informative and interactive session on organizing by District 78 Organizer, Sister Rootisha Rampat Sukhu.

The stewards left the symposium better equipped to deal with problems and issues at the workplace. District 78 is committed to the education and the upliftment of it’s members and leadership.
