Saint John, NB – The IAM extends a huge congratulations to our members of Local 835 at Clow Canada for completing their Workplace Essential Skills (WES) program. It is great to see our members get the support they need to feel empowered, safe, and recognised on the job.

Matthew Barnable, Grand Lodge Representative said, “Diversity and inclusion are cornerstones of our values, and Clow Canada stepped up to achieve this. Local 835 President Chris Arseneau put a lot of work in on this project as well to ensure our members had a smooth transition into the program.  We were very pleased with this initiative.”

The 10-week WES training ensured each employee was able to enhance their skills in: English Communication, Math (numeracy), Reading and Writing, and Problem Solving. This program was completed and celebrated the week of May 8, 2023. Partners in the initiative were Working NB, the YMCA and New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) whom provided the instructors and facilitated the course.

Clow Canada is the sole manufacturer of fire hydrants in Canada. The 47 members produce valves and water fittings used in the manufacture of the fire hydrants. Local 835 received a charter from the IAM in 1941.
