IAM Local 1848 members ratify contract with HudBay
IAM Local 1848 ratified a new collective agreement late on 14 June, 2024. After months of bargaining, they reached an agreement that was recommended by the committee and accepted by the membership.
President, Rene Beauchamp said, “This is the best agreement I’ve seen in nearly 30 years of being on the negotiating committee. The membership will see increases to their wages, pension, and benefits.”
There is also new and enhanced language that strengthens job security and union security. The retirees, active and not, will also see improvements to the retiree agreement respecting their years of service, and providing them a retirement with dignity.
IAM Local Lodge 1848 members perform skilled trades at mining operations at Hudbay mining, some 800 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg. Chartered in 1944, IAM Local 1848 members work primarily in the Northern Manitoba locations of Snow Lake, 777 Mine, Flin Flon, Lalor Mine and Reed Mine.
