Honouring Black History Month: Strength, Solidarity, and the Fight for Justice

Black History Month is a time to honour the achievements, resilience, and lasting contributions of Black people, while also reflecting on the ongoing struggle for equity and justice. From labour leaders and activists to community builders and caregivers, Black workers have played a vital role in shaping our unions, our workplaces, and our society.
The labour movement has long been strengthened by Black members who stood on the front lines for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity at work—often while confronting systemic racism and exclusion. Their courage and determination continue to inspire today’s fight for fairness, inclusion, and respect for all workers.
As a union, we recognize that celebrating Black history also means committing to action. This includes challenging racism in all its forms, amplifying Black voices, and building truly inclusive workplaces where every member can thrive. Solidarity is not just a principle—it is a responsibility.
This Black History Month, we encourage members to learn, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations. By honouring the past and standing united in the present, we help build a more just and equitable future for generations to come.
