IAM District 78 Summer Social Brings Delegates Together
On June 11, 2026, IAM District 78 hosted its Summer Social, bringing together delegates from across the District for an enjoyable evening of networking, camaraderie, and connection.
The event provided delegates with an opportunity to strengthen relationships, share experiences, and celebrate the collective spirit that makes our union strong. The atmosphere was filled with conversation, laughter, and a renewed sense of solidarity among members. Delegates were treated to a delicious barbecue, by their hosts. Special thanks to District 78 staff, who worked hard to make the day a great success.
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the 2026 IAM District 78 Scholarship recipient, Nia Wilson. Selected by the Scholarship Committee from a strong pool of applicants, Nia impressed the committee with her academic achievements, community involvement, and future aspirations. Nia plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work before continuing her education toward a Law degree. Her commitment to advocacy and service reflects the values that the scholarship seeks to recognize and encourage. Nia also comes from a proud labour family, with both of her parents actively involved in the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
Another exciting moment of the evening was the announcement of the winner of the television draw. Congratulations to Charlet Abbas of Spectrum Health Care, whose name was selected as the lucky winner.
As the evening came to a close, delegates left with strengthened connections and a shared appreciation for the opportunity to gather outside of regular union business. The Summer Social once again demonstrated the importance of fellowship and engagement within District 78.
We thank everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the event. We look forward to reconvening with delegates on September 10, 2026.
Summer Social Candid moments!
