First Contract for new IAM members at OECTA
Late last week the administrative staff at the English Catholic Teachers Association-Toronto Secondary Unit, ratified their first collective agreement. “This was a small group of workers who believed in the benefit of belonging to a Union”, stated District 78 Representative Kim Valliere. “Management fully accepted the right of these workers to be in a Union, and both sides treated each other respectfully throughout the negotiations process,” stated IAM Organizer Scott Jackson. In addition to a significant wage adjustment and annual increases, a top up for pregnancy and parental leave was achieved.
Our new members will become part of IAM Local 1922 which already represents close to 200 union labour staff members.
