Toronto, ON – Members of IAM Local 907 working for the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) rejected their employer’s offer by a clear margin of 97%. The 35 members then took a strike vote which passed unanimously with 100% of the members voting in favour.

Parental leave, pensions and benefits were the main items to be resolved.

Ralph Martin, Grand Lodge Representative said of the members’ decisions, “The bargaining committee will continue in their efforts to get a fair and reasonable deal that reflects the wishes of the membership. We are hopeful the employer will change course and alter their position and hard-line stance on the remaining issues,” he concluded.

The Bargaining Committee stands ready to return to the table as soon as the Employer indicates good faith.

PIPSC is the largest union in Canada representing scientists and professionals employed at the federal and certain provincial and territorial levels of government. The 35 members of IAM Local 907 represent and provide services from coast to coast to coast for the approximately 60,000 members of PIPSC.

The former members of the Professional Institute Regional Employee Council (PIREC) joined the IAM in November 2019.
