Members at Boart Longyear at Local Lodge 2412 ratify contract avoid strike

18 January, 2022

North Bay, ON – After a nearly impossible set of negotiations which started with more than 25 pages of concessionary demands from the employer, IAM Local Lodge 2412 has finally reached an agreement with the employer.

Members working at Boart Longyear showed how they felt by giving the union a 99% strike mandate. They stood firm with the Negotiating Committee and were able to push back the employer’s demands and reach an agreement.

“The employer tabled a final offer with 15 minutes left before the strike deadline and the members rejected that offer soundly. As a result of the members united stance further discussions happened and as a result of those discussions we reached an agreement,” said Ralph Martin, Grand Lodge representative.

Some of the highlights are:

  • Almost 13% in general wage increases over the next 39 months and retroactive wage increases back to May 2021
  • Additional money into an employee RRSP
  • Increase in workboot allowance, shift premiums, dental and 24/7 shift premiums.
  • Contract language changes that maintain or improve the integrity of the Collective Agreement in all areas

The members of LL 2412 voted to accept the new deal by a margin of 90 percent. The 120 members manufacture drilling equipment for the Global mining industry.
