Michael (Mike) MacIsaac, retired IAM member from locals 3111 and 1953, is running to be the President of the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada (CURC). The vote will take place at CURC’s virtual 14th Constitutional Convention in October 2022.
“I’m pleased to put my name forward for the leadership of this great organisation,” said MacIsaac. “There are many retirees who help keep the union message alive and strong. I wanted to make sure I had a role in expanding that. But we need more retirees involved.”
“Homecare, pharmacare and pensions are three top things retirees need action on and CURC can make a big difference. With a more powerful voice from across Canada, we can get the government to move quickly to implement these and make life easier for all workers and all retirees.”
MacIsaac began as a member of IAM Local Lodge 1953 in Winnipeg, MB, in 1973. He was elected twice as District 181 Representative, as well as President of DL181 for one term.
He continued his labour activism as a Representative for the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and eventually moved up to be Executive Director to the CLC President. Before retiring, he again became a Machinist when his local joined the IAM in the form of Local 3111CULR.
“We urge all our retirees to join CURC so we can support Mike at the Convention,” said Dave Chartrand, IAM Canadian General Vice-President. “We know there are many issues retirees face and we strong voices to speak up for all of them. Mike will provide that voice and leadership on issues that retirees want to address. It’s critical to get involved – it’s the only way we can change things,” Chartrand concluded.
The Fourteenth Convention of the Congress of Union Retirees of Canada will take place virtually on Wednesday, October 12th and Thursday, October 13th, 2022 starting at 12:00 p.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. EST each day.
Please note registrations will be accepted up to Wednesday, September 21st, 2022.
The delegate registration fee is $35.00 and the Guest (Observer) registration fee is $20.00
